Ron is an ex-college professor who took his passion for woodworking into the next phase of his life. I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Ron’s shop viewing pieces in various stages of completion. I saw many completed pieces that Ron was preparing for a show in New England.

Many people are of the opinion that woodworking is not art. However, if you saw the creative pieces that Ron has created you would share my opinion that this is indeed art. He uses woods common to the area and is of a rare and special quality. He makes furniture and special designer pieces that generally are custom made to specifications.

One of his specialties is liturgical works for places of worship.

Ron makes work to customer specification and does commission work. When I visited Ron, I saw a headboard being made to a customer’s specifications that impressed me with its detail and intricacies.

Larry
larry@findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

It is, rather, about a gallery of artists. I met Noah Antieau at an Art event in Norcross, Georgia. He is the front man for six artists in www.redtruckgallery.com. Noah and I are kindred souls so to speak. Read this passage from his site:

“It seems most every time I walk into an art gallery I end up disappointed in one of two ways: either the art is bad, or the cost is outrageous.
More often than not galleries just do not show good art, which is amazing when you think about it, but nonetheless true. On those rare occasions when a gallery gets it right, they charge so much that the average person might as well be walking though a museum as a gallery; prices are just too high.
The result is that a huge segment of the population has been forced out of the conventional art market, left to languish in second rate craft fairs and strange, starving artist, shopping mall galleries.” (Noah Antieau) http://redtruckgallery.findartbuyart.com/

I am of the same opinion. When people go to galleries or exhibits, they find the art pricing prohibitive. Primarily this is because gallery operators may charge upwards of 50% commission on the artwork. I find this appalling. They are profiting from the sweat and inspiration of others for the privilege of giving an artist a piece of wall to display their work.

Art lovers are forced to attempt to find those diamonds in the rough artists who have not been recognized for their talent, yet. Artist’s main drive in their life is to display their unique vision in an art medium that expresses their innermost thoughts. Artist’s main sense of gratification is to have someone appreciate his or her work.

I am not denigrating all gallery owners. Some try to do right by their artists and patrons by charging reasonable commissions. Other parasites gouge their artists because artists are generally not attuned to the business side of art.

Do not let these vermin win. Go to independent galleries. View the work of some great artists who have not been discovered yet. Tell the artist how their work makes you feel. If you are so compelled, buy something.

Larry
larry@findartbuyart.com
www.findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

It was very enjoyable to finally be able to talk to her up close and personal. My wife and I enjoyed speaking with her very much. We also had the occasion to view the work of her Etsy friends of Central Florida. In addition to her work on Etsy she has posted another sample of her work on Find Art Buy Art.

Please read some of her bio below:

The Crafty Hag is a St. Petersburg Florida artist who creates stained glass art in a non-traditional style. Incorporating found objects and painted elements make the Hag's creations all one of a kind. However, The Crafty Hag is not just about glass. She also makes fun goofy stuff like giant magnets with silly photos, cool folk art inspired paintings, hand printed postcards, and tons of other stuff! The Crafty Hag can be found at various events posted on her website www.craftyhag.com just go to the events page! Or if you are not in the local FL area you can shop on line at www.craftyhag.etsy.com Drop the crafty hag an email through either website and let her know what you think about her work. OR, you can be the Crafty Hag's friend on MySpace www.myspace.com/craftyhag Don't be shy!

Her work can also be found on www.findartbuyart.com. Her direct link to her page is http://craftyhag.findartbuyart.com/. I am an incredible fan of her work and she is prolific and open. Please check her out and give me your opinion.

As usual, if you know of a creative person who needs to have their work displayed to the public, please give me their contact information so that I may review their work here. I am always looking to help artists create a buzz and interest around their creative expressions.

Larry
larry@findartbuyart.com
www.findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

When my wife and I were creating this labor of love call Find Art Buy Art, we had aspirations that we could help to promote the work of all artists young and not so young. We wanted to watch the talent and drive of people begin to blossom. Now we are getting people on the site at the onset of their careers and they are posting their work.

The vision of artists and their personal drive to create is what I enjoy viewing. My wife and I spend our free time travelling the US going to art shows in search of that undiscovered talent. We love talking to artists and getting their personal view on life and their art.

Please view and comment on our two new young artists. Katey and Reggi are high school students with a passion and talent for exposing their creative expression to the art loving public. In addition, we have a new addition from the photography world. Her name is Chelsie.

Join me at www.findartbuyart.com in watching these young people learn and grow through the arts.

Larry
larry@findartbuyart.com
www.findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

She has taken some things from her personal artistic work and translated it to a motorcycle gas tank. I love it. If I had a big bad street Hog with 1300ccs of power and a noisy exhaust with my shaved head and leather I would have Nicole detail my ride. (I would if my wife would let me own a bike, and my leather does not fit around the middle anymore and the baldhead is now a salt and pepper color, more salt than pepper to be exact) Anyway, a man can dream. However, I love the series. Check out her talent and you will be as impressed as I was. She also is a very passionate sketch artist. If you are an artist or know of a talented person seeking additional exposure to the art buying public, please refer them to our site.

I spend a great deal of time promoting and blogging about our talented artists. We are trying to expose the world to the talented and passionate artistic people of the world. If it is one thing that artists need, it is more people viewing their work.

I also travel the US getting more people to view the site. I have visited at least 30 art shows over the past 3 years. I tell everyone I meet about the site and encourage him or her, as art patrons, to visit the site. As it stands now we get 300-400 unique hits every week. Some of these people will view and like your work and, perhaps buy. That is my goal behind this site.

My wife and I are passionate, ardent admirers of artists and their creative expressions. We gain nothing from the site other than satisfaction of helping people like you.

If you choose to join us, great!!! If not, we wish all the success in the world.

Robin and Larry
robin@findartbuyart.com
larry@findartbuyart.com
www.findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

One of these people happens to be on our site and she is prolific to say the least. I can see the maturity of her work just over the last few months.

Her name is Katey and she is a high school student. Her talent is obvious and her depth of vision in her subjects is intriguing. She uses paints, charcoal, and pencil in her art. She creates bears, plants, shoes, and other subjects. We have viewed her work on the site and are pleased that she has chosen to join us.

People like Katey are the reason that my wife and I have decided to start this site. We love to help young and aspiring artists by giving them additional exposure to the art buying public. All artists have a depth of character and their art is a window into their innermost thoughts and emotions. Those emotions come out of Katey’s work. Please check her out and either agree or disagree with me through this blog.

I am looking to find artists to review and recruit for our site. My main goal is to allow artists a forum to display their work to the art-loving world. Please contact me at larry@findartbuyart.com and give me the contact information for the artists.

Thank you,
Robin and Larry
robin@findartbuyart.com
larry@findartbuyart.com
www.findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

I was especially impressed with their work and passion. In subsequent postings, I will talk about each in more detail.

The art world has gotten a bit more difficult recently with the economy being more of a challenge. With fuel costs going up, it is becoming more costly to travel to these shows. Consequently, artists have to be a bit more judicious in the shows they choose to attend. The public is a bit tighter with their money and will spend considerably more time mulling a purchase and look for more reasons not to buy. This may also have the added effect of a sort of reverse buyer’s remorse. That is they decide after they get home that the piece that they were looking at would indeed complement whatever space they imagined it in or they just regret not buying because they later realize how much they liked the particular work.

With artist’s streams of revenue drying up, they need to find a better alternative to the more costly, less lucrative shows. That is where we fervently hope to help by providing this source of art fans to view and perhaps buy work. One of the major frustrations that we feel is that artists, especially older ones, do not inherently trust the internet. They think that it does not make sense that we are giving them a free portal to display their wares. The questions that we receive are always, “What are you getting out of it?”

For my wife and me, this web site fills two needs. One we are ardent and passionate supporters of the arts. We marvel at the well of creative inspirations that are evident in the passionate people that we meet in our pursuit of creative expression. Funding is virtually non-existent for artists unless one is fortunate to find an angel to finance works. Most artists are more attuned to the creative side of their personality and less capable as business people. They are more focused to the creativity. It is what makes them who they are. As a consequence, they are subject to be taken advantage of by people and organizations that would over-charge for the right to display and sell their work their using the organization’s medium. We find it appalling that this occurs, yet some artists gladly pay up to 50% for minimal support. I am passionately devoted to seeing people not being taken advantage. That is why we are supplying the portal and are going to allow artists to sell through our site with a shopping cart feature. The 15% that we will charge is what we need to pay expense related to maintaining the structure and software.

Secondly, if the site does well and get consistent good traffic we may be able to charge advertising fees to art related enterprises. We also have as part of the business plan the intention of funding and supporting art programs through donations. The area we live, Philadelphia, has many art institutions and programs that help young artists develop their talents and provide an avenue for their creative expression. It is through the eyes of these visionary and talented people that my wife and I live vicariously. Nothing warms us as much as being able to help a young person.

This site fills our emotional needs in that we feel that it is our purpose to allow others to stand on our shoulders to achieve. We get satisfaction from the success and fulfillment of others. Please join us on FABA and if you know of any artists or art shows in the country please e-mail us with that information. We are fortunate enough to be able to travel frequently and we love to make visiting shows and artists part of our itinerary.
Sincerely,
Larry
Larry@findartbuyart.com
Robin
robin@findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

Recently I had the pleasure of traveling to Florida to see a couple of great events. One was the Winter Haven Art Festival. I met several fantastic artists who travel the country in the hopes of selling their work. My wife and I love speaking with these people and hearing about their influences and work.

Most express a little frustration over economic times that make selling their work a bit more difficult. I sympathize with them and understand the financial realities of the day. I am in the process of updating www.FindArtBuyArt.com to allow artists to sell their product on-line. My wife and I want to give the artists a better forum to expose their work to the art buying public while at the same time allowing them to spending less time traveling to the less productive art events. Please look for us to have a new look and feel to FABA coming in the near future.

I am looking to find artists to review and recruit for our site. If it looks familiar, it should. It is probably the most famous painting of George Washington that there is. It is also the model, I believe, for the dollar bill. If I am incorrect, I am sure someone will correct me. By the way, admittance to the art museum is by donation on Sundays. They will accept whatever you can afford. I usually end up giving more than regular admittance price simply because I believe that the art museum is one of the greatest values in the city of Philadelphia. I tend to get lost in the dynamic history in front of my eyes and I, being and amateur history buff, love to transport myself back to the time of the work that I am viewing and imagine myself in that period. I guess that’s what fascinates me most about art and history. I love to try to think about how the people felt and what their thoughts were at the time of creating that art or that particular era in history. I, however, have committed to the fact that a well planned or a spontaneous photographic shot can be artistic in a variety of ways. One can be the setup such as a pose by a creative and authentic subject. The post production processes can create another effect. The work of Lee Miller at the Philadelphia Museum of Art is a great example of photographic art. There is an artist on www.findartbuyart.com that meets the artistic requirement.

My subject this week is Rand. He has created a compelling variety of photographic techniques that intrigue and fascinate. Check his work on www.findartbuyart.com. His avocation is as a roadie for various shows in and about the city of Philadelphia. In this capacity, he occasionally takes photos that cause the viewer to sit up and take notice. Check his work and give me your opinion.

Also, look for some changes to Find Art Buy Art in the coming months. Several artists have made some suggestions for improvements and modifications. We have listened and are working on some features that will make the site more fun and interactive. It may also make the artists some more money. (We certainly hope so)

Larry
larry@findartbuyart.com
www.findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

Actually, it is me, and I try to experiment with different setting on my digital camera to create effects that intrigue the mind. After many attempts at getting the moon to pose in the spot I wanted, I was able to take a photo that I thought worthy of posting. Please view my blog at http://lamitchell.findartbuyart.com/. If you click on the photo, you will see a bower dimly lit in the foreground with the moon cooperating in the background. I did not want to use a flash in fears of dimming the moon's effect. This is the result. I would certainly appreciate your feedback and input. The link to her article is in parenthesis below.

Melissa,

Thank you so much for your article on PhillyNews.com regarding the art movement here is Philadelphia. You have written about what I have long felt and known regarding the art scene in Philly. We wife and I are ardent observers of the art scene in Philly. We take the time to see most shows and exhibits here in the city. The talent that is migrating here is impressive, but even more so is the proliferation of young homegrown talent. We have quite a few art schools here in the city and the classes are full and the outpouring of art displays the emotion and passion of our young talent. I enjoy sitting back and watching these people grow and learn in their field.

Our passion for young people success has led up to create a free forum for artists to display their work. We have several you artists who are going to make an impression on the art world. At your convenience please check out www.findartbuyart.com and look at the work of dawlheart, textileeliz, Katey Sponheimer, Reggi Lerro, Harry Boardman, Noah Antieau, Enid Pagan, Heather Pettersen, Ivey Spivey, Nicole DelRossi, et al.

Most of these artists are in and among the Philadelphia area. They work and labor at their craft and only wish that the public views and appreciates their work. I am long and admirer of the creative drive that impels the artist to work. I love to talk to artists about the inspirations behind their work and get the background to some of their most intimate creations.

Once again, thank you for a great article. I am so pleased that you wrote it. If you do not mind, I am going to reference it in my “Art Fan” blog. I will give proper credit to you, of course.
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

When my wife and I were creating this labor of love call Find Art Buy Art, we had aspirations that we could help to promote the work of all artists young and not so young. We wanted to watch the talent and drive of people begin to blossom. Now we are getting people on the site at the onset of their careers and they are posting their work.

The vision of artists and their personal drive to create is what I enjoy viewing. My wife and I spend our free time travelling the US going to art shows in search of that undiscovered talent. Her name is Katey and she is a high school student. Her talent is obvious and her depth of vision in her subjects is intriguing. She uses paints, charcoal, and pencil in her art. She creates bears, plants, shoes, and other subjects. I have viewed her work on the site and am pleased that she has chosen to join us.

Rather today is about an organization and their movement to develop artists and help them to integrate art into educational programs.

The BuildaBridge organization is a group dedicated to positive social change. Read below the passage that I took from their website (www.buildabridge.org):

BuildaBridge's mission is twofold: Bring hope, healing through the arts, and engage artists in service to others.
In other words, we use the arts to help people in difficult situations to heal from trauma and find hope for their future.
Our 2012 goal is to provide hope and healing through the arts to the 2500 homeless children in Philadelphia and 50,000 children worldwide.
Our basic philosophy is summed up in the phrase "Speaking a Blessing into the life of the child through the arts." We:
1. Build healthy and mentoring relationships with children and youth
2. Teach creative arts as a method for engaging children and youth in healthy creative play and learning
3. See the inner gifts of the child and speak encouragement about these gifts for their future
4. Look for teachable moments by listening and observing
5. Use art as a metaphor in teaching lessons of wisdom, correction, and life skills
6. Go beyond arts teaching to meet the needs of the whole child through other resources
Examples of what we do:
· Children learned to appreciate the value of other cultures through an indoor mural project in one Philadelphia shelter that taught about Persian art
· Gang members in a Guatemala prison experienced joy and relief of boredom through a portrait painting class
· Young court mandated single mother’s managed their anxiety and anger by creating masks in an art and spirituality class
· Former child prostitutes in Costa Rica dealt with the pain of their past by telling their stories through drama
· Forty homeless women learned financial planning skills through a soap opera and game show along with financial planning with a local banker
· Young artists learned the social skills of behavior in a formal setting by attending live concerts in a professional theater
· Young homeless mothers learned to plan and cook inexpensive healthy snack foods for their kids in a culinary arts class
As a parent and a grandparent, I know that exposure of children to the arts in any form helps to develop creative and abstract thinking. It promotes a higher brain function allowing a child to absorb and assimilate deeper and richer concepts. This in turn will enable the child to become more emotionally secure and mature.

Who among us has not seen a child in a transfixed creative state while involved in some artistic endeavor? My wife and I had occasion to visit her and view her works during one of our many trips to Florida.

OR you can be the Crafty Hag's friend on MySpace www.myspace.com/craftyhag Don't be shy!

Her work can also be found on www.findartbuyart.com. Her direct link to her page is http://craftyhag.findartbuyart.com/. I am an incredible fan of her work and she is prolific and open.

My wife and I had occasion to visit her and view her works during one of our many trips to Florida.

One of his specialties is liturgical works for places of worship.

http://www.ronmorganwoodworks.com/

Ron makes work to customer specification and does commission work. When I visited Ron, I saw a headboard being made to a customer’s specifications that impressed me with its detail and intricacies.

Larry
larry@findartbuyart.com
www.findartbuyart.com
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

She creates still life portraits in watercolor that expresses some of her innermost thoughts. There is depth and passion there that make her work a unique and an introspective experience to the viewer. My wife and I had the good fortune to meet her in San Diego at the ArtWalk. Seeing her work up close and personal moved us. We discussed where would be the best place to display her art. We believe it would accentuate and compliment a sun room or family room with the bright and expressive colors. The best thing that I can say about Heather's work is that it is fun!! Her jewelry makes me feel good. The color combinations and their brightness make a great accessory to a beautiful summer ensemble. She has a set of earrings that she calls "Blue Disc". My eyes were drawn to them and I imagine them dangling from a young lady's ears as a statement of gaiety and mirth. Earring are just a small sample of what Heather does. She makes these items herself and spend a great deal of time going to classes honing her craft. Her skill is evident immediately. All of her stuff is for sale on her site, www.hmbstudios.com. (Yet!) This artist was brought to my attention by Ronald Henderson. (rsidneyartworks@mac.com) I went to the site for R. Sidney and was fortunate to see the work in an art show in Norcross, Georgia. It is a combination of nature and human creations in very asymmetrical manner. The combination of soft feature contrasting hard lines create a visual experience that touches this viewer. I found myself staring at the work quite intensely. My favorite pieces of his work is the "Dancer" series. Check it out and tell me what you think. While that is not all he does it is one of my favorite mediums he uses. In fact, I commissioned him for a work that I gave as a gift to my wife. He is very detail oriented and his work is deep and expressive. The work creates instant emotions in the viewer and I can't speak more highly of his talent. Please check out my friend Harry Boardman at http://harryboardman.findartbuyart.com/. In his homepage on www.findartbuyart.com he lists his contact information. Please check his work out on my site and give him a photo or a image to reproduce and you will be amazed at the quality. Within one month we will be uploading shopping cart software that will enable people to sell through the site. We will be charging just enough to cover the cost of the software and maintenance. In a quaintly rustic town there were an incredible amount of old world artisans who adhere to the original craftsmanship techniques. Their wares are unique and vivid. There were metalsmiths, pottery makers, wood crafters, rug and material loomers, original musical instruments and musicians, civil war reenactors (Southern sypathizers, of course, "Give 'em hell, Bobby Lee!"), punchneedle works, basket weavers, floral artisans, Old World sign makers, and paint artists. The return to a simpler era began with a 3 hour drive from the Philadelphia area to Waterford, Virginia. It was worth every second. We went back in time to a town that holds the traditions and ways of a town that treasures its roots. We visited and spoke with James Stewart the sign carver (www.woodsunlimited.com), Judth McKellar, a sculpture artist from Warrenton, Pa, Joanne Evans, a wonderful coutry painter, among others. We hope to get these people and others that we have met to exhibit their terrific work on our site, www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com. They embody the vision that I have for this site and hope that you will be seeing their work shortly on our site.
www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com

We had noticed a great deal of very talented people had no on-line prescence. They had no web site or if they did it was poorly put together and rarely updated. I expressed to several business associates my thoughts and they suggested that I survey patrons in various locations. The results confirmed some suspicions that I had. One, very talented and creative people are under-represented on line. They develop various visually pleasing objects with their innovative minds and talents. Within this space in the future I will attempt to highlight and describe some of the truly talented people that I encounter in my travels. I will focus the individual posts on their craft. If they have web sites and a web prescence, I will provide links to them and I will attempt to highlight them on my newly created site, www.artiqueandcraftmasters.com.
